Walking through the pedestrian tunnel in City Park, Kelowna, I found this graffiti really interesting. The tunnel had recently been rebuilt because of the bridge construction and so it was clean and symmetrical, and built to plans. I could never decide if this graffiti was also part of the rebuild - clean and symmetrical, and built to plans – and why wasn’t there any other graffiti?

This looks so much like it should be a scene out of a jail cell – not part of a recreation area. It is interesting to take small snapshots of our surroundings and look at them out of context.

Kelowna at night from Knox Mountain

Between Christmas and new years I decided it had been too long since I had captured some landscape images. So, at around 2:30 pm I pulled on my trusty Sorrel boots and started hiking up the hillside through the snow. The sun went down at around 4:30 and half an hour later the conditions were right to make this image possible.

Lights on the Leas in Folkestone

In January I travelled to Folkestone in England for my Aunties funeral. Folkestone is a sea-side town on the English Channel and The Leas is a promenade overlooking the sea. This image was all luck – being in the right place at the right time. Fantastic winter sunset lighting, not too many people to clutter the picture, and ornate wrought iron lamp stands.

Carousel in Paris

Carousels always excite me with photographic possibilities. They are stationary, while having lots of movement, and they are colorful and have interesting lighting. I shot this image with a shutter speed of 1/15 of a second while panning with a wide angle lens. No flash was used. I love the colours, movement, and chaos.

Eiffel Tower from the Trocadero at night

January in Paris can be cold and wet. Daytime photography was uninspiring and a little disappointing. At night however, the possibilities came alive. This image of the Eiffel tower is shot from the “Palais de Chaillot” on the Trocadero. The reflection on the tiles in the foreground is from the rain that fell about 10 minutes earlier. The distance of 0.6 km from the camera to the tower is compressed by using a 120mm telephoto lens.

Even on a cold winters night there is a lot of activity around the base of the Eiffel Tower. People are lined up waiting to get on the elevators that run up the leg of the tower to the first platform. Cars and carousels add to the activity. Using a one second exposure I captured this image from the gardens of the “Palais de Chaillot”.

Wandering through the park of the “Palais de Chaillot” in the drizzling rain at night was a surreal experience. The moodiness of the illuminated night sky against the shadows of the trees gave me so many opportunities to make great images. This image was made using a 24mm wide angle lens and a 2.2 second exposure.
